Student Life & Activities at KK8 UM
Life at Kolej Kediaman Kinabalu (KK8) extends far beyond the classroom. KK8 fosters a vibrant, inclusive, and community-driven environment where students build leadership skills, forge lifelong friendships, and create memories that last well beyond graduation.
Student Association – PSMKH
The Persatuan Siswa Mahasiswa Kolej Kediaman (PSMKH), or the Student Association of Kinabalu Residential College, is the main student body governing college life at KK8. PSMKH organises a wide range of activities throughout the academic year, including:
- College orientation for new residents
- Inter-college sports competitions
- Cultural nights and performances at Dewan Seri Mutiara
- Charity drives and community outreach
- Annual college dinner (Malam Kolej)
Sports & Inter-College Events
KK8 participates actively in Universiti Malaya's inter-college sports competitions. Sports commonly represented by KK8 teams include badminton, football, basketball, volleyball, and athletics. The college's spirit and competitive drive are central to its identity.
Cultural Performances & Arts
Through Kinabalu Seni Kreatif, KK8 residents participate in traditional dance, drama, and musical performances, celebrating Malaysia's multicultural heritage. These activities are showcased at college and university-level cultural events.
UM Campus Life Connection
As part of Universiti Malaya's residential college system, KK8 students also participate in university-wide events, including the Pilihanraya Kampus Universiti Malaya (PRKUM) – the UM campus elections, a significant event that nurtures future leaders and civic engagement among students.
The KK8 Spirit
The KK8 identity is encapsulated in its famous chant: "We are the best, we are the great, we are the EIGHT EIGHT!". This pride and togetherness define the college culture, creating bonds between residents that last well into their professional lives.
