Room Accommodation & Registration at KK8

Kolej Kediaman Kinabalu (KK8) offers on-campus accommodation for eligible Universiti Malaya students. Room allocation is managed by the Student Affairs Department (HEP) in accordance with UM's residential placement policy.

Eligibility & Allocation

Room allocation at KK8 follows UM's standard criteria, which considers:

  • Academic performance and CGPA
  • Distance from campus (priority to students from outside Klang Valley)
  • Faculty zone allocation (KK8 is in Zone 3, serving FCSIT and related faculties)
  • Availability and vacancy

Both undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply. Postgraduate and international students may be placed based on vacancy, with slightly higher residential fees.

Room Confirmation & Key Collection

Students who receive a room offer must confirm their placement promptly via the HEP portal. Students who have confirmed but choose not to reside at the college will be charged a disruption fee equivalent to two weeks' accommodation. Upon arrival, residents collect their room keys from the college office and sign the Key Handover Form.

Room Return Policy

Students who are no longer residing at KK8 – whether due to graduation, withdrawal, or choosing to live off-campus – are required to return their room keys to the college office along with the completed Key Handover Declaration Form (Borang Akuan Penyerahan Kunci).

Residential Fees

Undergraduate residential fees are set by Universiti Malaya and include basic room furnishings such as a bed, pillow, and bedsheet. Postgraduate and international student fees may range from RM15.00 to RM70.00 per day depending on the room type selected. Public applicants (non-UM) may stay at a starting rate of RM15.00 per night, subject to availability.

How to Apply

New students should apply for accommodation through the official Universiti Malaya Student Affairs Department (HEP) portal. Existing students must reapply each semester. For enquiries, contact HEP directly at hep@um.edu.my.
